Strips going to soak in water for three days. Helps with straightening the nodes and initial planing.
Time to get the strips out of the water to straighten them and displace the nodes. Here is a soaked strip for the butt section.
This jig allows to file away just the high point at the node and minimize the filing of the adjacent area.
The high point referred to is at the center of the picture. The rise on the left will be dealt with through displacement.
The high point filed away. The power fibers are clearly visible. Some scraping on the left, but just on the surface. The strength of the bamboo resides mostly in the fibers just below the enamel (shiny coating) and every effort is made to minimise the loss of power fibers.
