Be sure to join us on April 2 at 7:00 PM at the Riverview Community Centre. when club experts will be demonstrating some favourite patterns. If you'd like to tie along, bring your vice, tools and basic materials. There will also be a beginners session with everything provided that you'll need to start tying.
The MFFA is excited to have Phil Rowley return to Winnipeg on April 5-6. Phil is one of Canada's preeminent stillwater fly fishers, and is always willing to share his vast experience. Check out his newest book, The Orvis Guide to Stillwater Trout Fishing, an amazing resource for fly fishers. He will be speaking Friday evening at 7-9 PM at the Riverview Community Centre and Saturday at the Holiday Inn South from 10 AM to 4 PM. Phil will be discussing effective presentations and retrieves, back swimmers, boatmen, and chironomids, still-water fly lines, and a lot more. He'll also be demonstrating some favourite tying techniques and pattern. These sessions are free for MFFA members. You can join here. We are now accepting registration for our Fly Fishing Courses. You can find lots of information about our courses by clicking here. If you'd like to register for a course, just click here. Our courses come with a free one-year membership to the MFFA.
MFFA Conservation Objective: To encourage and support all persons and agencies dedicated to the preservation of clean water and good fishing, and to actively promote sound conservation practices and resource management in Manitoba.
Catch and Release
We support safe fish handling techniques when practicing catch and release angling. Further information can be found here (provided by the Swan Valley Sports Fishing Enhancement group.)
The MFFA received a $9000 grant to develop place educational signage promoting safe fish handling techniques. More information will be coming soon but an excellent resource can be found at KeepFishWet.org.
Trail Enhancements
The MFFA presentation of the new Kingfisher Angler Access Trail signs to Whiteshell Provincial Park Senior Interpreter Adam Collicutt.

New Whiteshell River underwater camera system has been successfully installed.

MFFA River Rehabilitation Efforts
Everyone can check out pictures of the Whiteshell River Enhancement Project provided by Bruce Cameron here. And while Covid restrictions certainly limited the MFFAʼs activities, we were still able to participate in a Whiteshell River Conservation outing in Spring 2020. We are pulling together a Wiki page on the water bodies we commonly fish. Members are able to add lake information, photos, fishing reports, etc. for everyone to benefit from. Check out the information on Footprint, Bower, Twin, and a couple others here.
