OK, first a little story. I love the look that cross-cut wrapping
gives to Pike/Bass flies but the hair length of rabbit fur made it
unsuitable for smaller flies. I found that squirrel fur is just the
right length for size 8 to 12 streamers. It is not available as far as I
know in cross-cut strips so you have to make your own. A ruler and razor
are the way to go, but the skin is very thin so be careful or you will
cut the fur off as you get through the hide. Super-fly sells dyed and
natural squirrel skins. This was my 'one fly' on Tokaruk this spring.
